Thoughts on the Palin/Biden Debate

If Republicans Don't Like Him, He Can't Be That Bad!

If Republicans Don't Like Him, He Can't Be That Bad!

Well, I wasn’t too sure what Palin we’d get to see last night at the debate, after the last couple of rocky weeks she’s had; but it looks like the old Sarah Palin, (from way back when we first met her those long five weeks ago), is back! I think both Joe Biden and Sarah Palin did very well; and frankly, I believe the vice-presidential debate was 1,000 percent better than the snoozefest Obama and McCain put on for us last week, in their first debate together.

Considering the position they both were put into last night, they both did remarkably well.  Biden had to be careful not to look condescending or patronizing; Palin just had to be herself, and put out strings of coherent statement together, that hadn’t been planted in her head by Republican operatives.

I didn’t watch much of MSNBC’s coverage of the debate but what little I did see was enough!  As the debate was about to begin, Chris Matthews was ranting about Palin seemingly not being able or willing to name the magazines and newspapers she reads on a regular basis, in her interview with Katie Couric – as if that really matters in the grand scheme of things.   Palin never said she didn’t read any newspapers or magazines – she probably didn’t think naming them was that important.  Did Matthews forget Alaska has television and Internet too!  It’s cold up there but not stupid!  After the debate, Andrea Mitchell was ripping Palin for sidestepping questions, which I don’t think she did a whole lot of, and instead claimed Palin only spouted McCain’s talking points.  Hello!  Did she watch the Obama/McCain debate?  All those two did was repeat lines they both had said one million times before.

Oh well, the last remaining weeks will be a roller coaster I’m sure.  Thank goodness it’s almost over!

Sarah, I Know How You Feel!

I don’t know how I found myself on the other side of the aisle this election but I find myself defending Sarah Palin more each day. It just rubs me wrong when people attack her – especially other women! Sarah Palin is a very likable person, and if we’re honest with ourselves, is probably a lot more like us, as regular ol’ Americans, than Obama, McCain and Biden. Frankly, if I were asked the same questions that’s she’s been asked on national television, I’d look as stumped too. Granted, I’m not running for vice-president but I still feel for her. Her Couric interview reminds me of a very bad job interview that I had a few years back. I was asked what my job duties were in one of my previous jobs and I couldn’t remember! All I could remember was the parking lot and driving to the job. “What the heck DID I do there?” I couldn’t recall. I totally choked, froze solid and blew the interview.

Can you imagine being put into the spotlight that she is in now and the enormous pressure that’s been placed on her shoulders? I’d fold like a lawn chair too. I’d probably be drooling out of the corners of my mouth and become glassy-eyed, if I were asked tough questions, like what my favorite color was. “Color, what’s that?”

Now we await the debate. Oh, joy! I think I’ll avoid watching the pundits dissection of Sarah’s every word tonight, and instead bang my head into the wall – it’ll be the same feeling – minus the waste of electricity!

It’s Time to play Jeopardy with Sarah Palin!

— A Typical Sarah Palin Interview—

Governor Palin I have a few questions for you:

Can you describe the Bush Doctrine to me… and what number am I thinking of right now?

I believe that there are terrorists in the world, hell bent on killing Americans, here and abroad, and I agree with President Bush that we should take the fight to the terrorists instead of fighting them on our own soil…Uhm…I’m guessing the number 8???

Wrong!  No, the Bush doctrine, as enunciated on September 15, 2002, at 8:09 pm to his dog Barney is what I was referring to; the number I was thinking of was 2,012.

You claim to have foreign policy experience, yet you only obtained a passport last year; how can you claim any foreign policy experience at all when you haven’t traveled the world?

Well, I’m not independently wealthy. I’ve had to work for a living and I’ve been a mayor and a governor – I’ve been kind of busy!

Can you tell me how many states — of matter there are?

Uhm, there’s liquids, solids and gasses?

Ah, ha!  You’re not aware of the other states of matter such as:  plasma, quark-gluon plasma, Bose-Einstein condensate and fermionic condensate?

I’ll have to Google that one and get back to you.

Do you really think you’ll have time to be vice-president, since you have SO many children?

Isn’t that kind of a sexist comment?  Would you ask the same question of a man?

So you’re not willing to answer my fair, unbiased, highly professional question?  You’re really not qualified to do anything are you?

I’m qualified to field dress a moose and I could do the same to you!

You really are a monster just like George Bush!

We Like it Hot, Hot, Hot!

Recently Bill Clinton was quoted as saying, “I get why she’s hot“, regarding Sarah Palin.   There’s no point denying it…Sarah Palin is Hot!

I’m on fire—Man I’m on fire—Feeling hot hot hot
Forget the Democratic Party – I’m feeling hot, hot, hot
If she were a shoe – I’d like to be a sock, sock, sock
Barack who? – With a gal like this!
She’s too neat – I can’t resist
Man, oh, man — She’s hot, hot, hot!

Ok, that’s really bad!  But Bill Clinton referring to a woman as ‘hot’ just brings back too many old memories.  Does anybody really think Bill and Hillary are going to be voting for Obama?  This has to be one of the most obnoxious songs ever written but it fits!

Thoughts on my way to the voting booth…

I never thought I’d ever seriously consider voting for a Republican for president – unless it was John McCain.  I bet a lot of Democrats have said or thought the same thing.

McCain and Palin bring something to the presidency that it hasn’t seen for as long as I’ve been alive – two proven, independent thinking, non-partisan people.  They’re singing my tune!  They both have a history of ruffling feathers in their own party, reforming government, and not going along with party bosses nor the status quo for their own political gain or security.  I can’t help but admire that.

I never thought I’d agree with Republicans on taxes but I do believe raising taxes on corporations is a job killer; and those taxes are only passed on to the employees of those corporations and the consumers of their products anyway.  We, the little people, always tow the line in the end, one way or the other. Corporate America makes sure of that.

One thing that’s really holding me back from jumping on the McCain band wagon is health insurance.  I’m not sure government funded universal health care is the answer; but I haven’t heard much from McCain that impresses me on that issue.  I guess the best answer is to create good jobs for everyone so they can either afford health insurance or have it supplied to them by their employer.  Now, the question is, what administration would be better at creating jobs?  I’m not sure; but I think Governor Palin is right about energy.  There’s a lot of good jobs that could be created on that front.
